ICHIBUNS: The awesomely titled, soon-to-be opened Asian-inspired burger joint is coming to Wardour Street in July. And the peeps behind the bun? It’s no other than the founders of Nobu so you can get your bottom dollar ICHIBUNS’ burgers will be breathtaking. Think: Japanese cuisine fused with the finest American filthy fast foods.
Recently, Wagamama and Busaba head honcho, Alan Yau sent the webosphere into a frenzy after he shared some deliciously naughty-looking burgers on Instagram at an ICHIBUNS pre-tasting (that wouldn’t look out of place on Man v Food). Confirmed menu highlights are set to include the towering Hokkaido burger with premium Wagyu beef and 28 day aged, grass-fed Angus prime cut, sautéed shitake mushrooms, white truffle oil and blue cheese fondue. Here, take a napkin to mop up that drool.
ICHIBUNS will also sell ramen (wagyu beef, king crab and vegetarian), maki rolls, harumaki (Japanese spring rolls) and melt-in-the-mouth CocoWhip soft-serve ice cream. Drinks-wise expect luscious libations in the form of house cocktails, beers and sugary-sweet shakes.
The three-storey eatery has an ultra-cool Tokyo rock n roll vibe and diners can eat in or have their (ichi)buns to go. And that cool name? It’s a play on ‘ichiban’ the Japanese for ‘number one’ which is what this joint is almost certainly going to become when it comes to sublime burgers with an Asian spin.
