Recipe alert! Learn how to cook Japanese beef with rice in just 15 minutes.
In case you didn’t get the memo, Chinatown’s cuisine isn’t just limited to Chinese. From Tokyo Diner to Shibuya Soho, there’s a wealth of tasty Japanese eateries where you can tuck into sushi, ramen and everyone’s favourite – katsu curry.
If you have been to Japan, you’d know that Japanese-style daily meals epitomise what modern city-dwellers are craving for, food that is fast but healthy and tasty.
Cheap, delicious and convenient. This is exactly what urban workers dreamed of, right?
Fun fact: Japanese style fast food actually earned its fame thanks to Yoshinoya, a super-popular chain established in 1899. Long before McDonald’s was a twinkle in Ronald’s eye. Since its opening – in China particularly – perception started to thankfully shift amongst the populace that Japanese cuisine = sushi. Put simply, Yoshinoya are the masters of insanely tasty yet quick-to-cook dishes. Forget Jamie Oliver as king of the 15-minute-meal.
Their signature beef with rice dish has attracted millions of fans by its ease to prepare and mouth-watering taste. In just 15 minutes, you can create your own Yoshinoya-style beef with rice at home. So why not treat yourself with some warmth this winter.
Shred the onion, split the ginger in two halves.
Boil the water, and put the beef slices in to cook to medium.
Put cooking wine, light soy sauce, mirin and sugar into a sauce pan, heat up until boiling, and put beef into the sauce pan to colour the meat, then take it out.
Add 100g water and onion into the saucepan, cover it, stew for 5 min until the onions soften, and add beef into it, turn to high heat, stew for another 2-3 min.
Prepare a bowl of rice, cover with the beef and onion atop, crack a hot-spring egg on top, and enjoy!
