La Scala (Wardour Street) | Italian
Sitting alongside plentiful Wardour Street Asian eateries, La Scala injects some Italiano flavour and flair into Chinatown. With a traditional, homely vibe, strings of garlic and salami hang on the bare, red-brick wall, as do plentiful wine bottles. In the kitchen at the back, a giant domed pizza oven commands centre stage.
Expect delicious antipasto galore, like Bufala con Crudo (whole Buffalo mozzarella with 6 months seasoned Parma ham), pasta dishes and fresh meat and fish. Try Spigola alla Griglia (whole grilled sea bass with mix salad), tender on the inside with a crispness to the skin, or Risotto Porcini e Gamberi (rice with Porcini mushrooms and prawns).
If you’ve still got space, tuck into one of their home-made desserts – who can resist a classic Tiramisu or creamy Pannacotta with chocolate, caramel and strawberries? Viva Italia.
