You’ve probably heard of Tai chi, but what do you really know about it? We’re here to clear up the fact from the fiction …
Tai chi or Tiaji (short for Tai ji quan, or T’ai chi ch’üan) is a Chinese martial art. It’s practised for a variety of reasons – from health to meditation and defense. The term ‘tai chi’ has its roots in the philosophy of yin and yang.
Its benefits can include:
- Improved health
- Oneness and focus of mind
- Increased energy levels
- Lessened levels of stress and higher levels of relaxation
- Strength, balance, coordination, agility
- Harmony with the natural world
Tai chi is a great place to start if you’re looking to achieve any of the above, or even if you’re just searching for a new hobby.
The Chinese Community Centre are running totally FREE tai chi sessions to help get those interested into the activity. Come down to Newport Place on Wednesday 17 July, any time between 4pm and 5pm, and an experienced Tai Chi master will help introduce you to the craft!
