Bubblewrap waffles pop up in Chinatown London

Everyone’s going Insta-crazy for Bubblewrap’s oh-so Instagrammable waffle cones, and soon they’re arriving in Chinatown.

Ready, steady, waffle!

Coming soon to Chinatown is the ultimate in sugary-sweet, ooey-gooey treats: Bubblewrap egg waffle cones. Starting out as a pop-up, street food operation dispensing their waffles at Berwick Street Market and festivals, Bubblewrap will be making a permanent home at their first ever shop on Wardour Street.

Unlike your usual flat, lattice-style waffle, Bubblewrap’s are hexagonal with spherical pockets of soft batter, rolled into a cone shape housing delicious centres. An unholy alliance of crispy-yet-squishy waffle, tasty filling and a syrupy topping. Salivating yet? The beauty of these wondrous waffles lies in their customisation. Pick your batter: plain or chocolate then choose what to cram it with – from healthy berries or bananas to decadently naughty Oreos and salted caramel-slathered pecans, the options are endless.

Named ‘bubblewrap’ thanks to the bumpy waffle resembling the familiar plastic protective packaging, the unique, ovular shape isn’t actually a modern waffle-phenomenon. Back in the 1950s Hong Kong market traders didn’t want to waste broken eggs so created inspired egg-shaped waffle machines to use them up. And thus the egg-waffle was born.

Bubblewrap opens at 24 Wardour Street, W1D in March 2017, for more information please visit bubblewrapwaffle.com
