Meet author Shih Chiung-Yu
To celebrate the release of her super-compelling short stories anthology, Wedding in Autumn and Other Stories, award-winning Taiwanese author Shih Chiung-Yu will be hosting a lil’ soirée on Tuesday 31 May 2018 at Guanghwa Bookshop. This fascinating talk is an opportunity to delve into the works of this amazing author and discuss the themes that underpin them.
It’s Shih Chiung-Yu’s belief that ‘past experiences shape who you are today’ and, during this deep and thought-provoking event, Shih Chiung-Yu will cover the concepts of identity, memories, conflicts and reconciliations. All things that feature prominently in her works, where her protagonists are seeking to overcome their historical scars.
Shih Chiung-Yu invites you to share your memories and stories too. Ideal if you love flexing your grey matter. And, you’ll have the chance to peruse and purchase Guanghwa’s rare titles and crafts, sourced from all over the Far East.
Born in Taiwan in 1968 and growing up in Taitung, a village of aboriginal Taiwan, Shih Chiung-Yu is a writer, essayist, news reporter and documentary filmmaker.
Her writing has won countless plaudits including the China Times Literature Award and the United Daily News Literature Award. Her superb novel Masked Dolls was translated and published by Balestier Press in 2016. Her short stories collection Wedding in Autumn and Other Stories will be published in June 2018.
