Join Lord Wei for an evening of cultural conversation at China Exchange’s Above the Clouds, Below the Bamboo Ceiling workshop
Do you find yourself Above the Clouds, Below the Bamboo Ceiling?
You’ve heard of the glass ceiling – that invisible barrier that hinders professional progression – but have you ever heard of the bamboo ceiling? Despite being mega-achievers academically, the UK’s East Asia community are not highly represented in leadership roles in public life, hence the concept of said bamboo blockade.
This compelling workshop, Above the Clouds, Below the Bamboo Ceiling, will explore and examine the barriers those with East Asian backgrounds face in the workplace if cultural norms are bit of a grey area.
Held in conjunction with the Diaspora Foundation, the super-inclusive event welcomes all backgrounds to an evening of conversation and discussion. You’ll team up with fellow attendees in small groups to exchange stories, thoughts and generally put the world to rights when it comes to your personal experiences on how culture influences career development and progression.
The workshop will be presided over by Lord Wei and senior community leaders who will contribute their thoughtful reflections on your discussions. In what promises to be a fascinating evening of delightful dialogue and discursive debate, Above the Clouds, Below the Bamboo Ceiling is a must-attend for those wanting to explore East Asian culture and identity.
