Golden Dragon (Gerrard Street) | Cantonese & Pekinese
Golden Dragon specialises in dim sum by day and Cantonese and Pekinese á la carte in the evening. One of the most popular places for dim sum along Chinatown’s Gerrard Street, it’s a hit with Chinese and Londoners alike. You may even find yourself rubbing shoulders with the odd celeb or head of state too.
Decked out in a classic Hong Kong style, spacious, and spread over two floors, the family-run Golden Dragon is a hotspot for large groups and traditional Chinese-style banqueting. Weddings, birthdays, you name it, Golden Dragon’s got your back.
Their dim sum is something to savour. From their Lightly Fried Crispy King Prawns with Yam to their Clam with XO Sauce Dumplings, Golden Dragon’s house dim sum specials are pillowy bombs of flavoursome goodness. Other unique chef specialties include their knock-out Prawn and Winter Melon Soup Dumplings – micro parcels of prawn submerged in a clear, mushroom-sprinkled, tasty broth. Or try their doughy Steamed Whole Walnut Buns, delightfully squishy with a crunchy surprise in the centre.
Did you know the quality of duck varies between seasons? Golden Dragon source theirs from Ireland and Lincolnshire in accordance to the time of year. Fun fact – Irish-bred ducks have a higher fat content and their Lincolnshire ducks are originally from Beijing which makes them super authentic.
Their giant BBQ oven is fired up each morning, expertly cooking everything on site so you can be sure everything is prepared fresh that day by their team of three expert Cantonese chefs. And, given the fact that Golden Dragon’s head chef has been there for over 25 years since it first opened, you can rest easy in the knowledge that you’re in fine culinary hands.
